A Born Here Studio campaign

Don't
Hand It
Down.

Belfast starts the sentence.
The world finishes it.

Keep the names. Keep the stories. Keep the culture, the songs, the humour and the pride. But the hatred, division and hurt we've already carried for long enough? We don't have to hand that down.

Born in Belfast

Keep your story.
Leave the hatred.

Don't Hand It Down came from one simple thought: what if we kept everything beautiful about where we come from, without passing the hatred on with it?

Belfast is a city that knows what it means to inherit history. Names, streets, colours, traditions and stories can carry meaning long before we're born. This song isn't asking anyone to forget where they come from. It's asking what we choose to carry forward.

“Say your name, wear your colours.
Keep the things that make you proud.”
KeepYour identity.
KeepYour stories.
KeepYour culture.
Leave behindThe hatred.
Your turn

What won't you hand down?

It can be something your community carried, something your family carried, or something completely personal. One sentence is enough. Add your city and region so the map can show how the message travels.

The song

Don't Hand It Down

A song about identity, inherited division and choosing what we pass to the people who come after us.

Written by Ciara McMenamin · Born Here Studio · 2026
“Give me the stories,
give me the truth.
But leave the hatred out.”

Hand something better down.

Your stories. Your music. Your culture. Your humour. Your pride. Your love. Just not the hatred.
